BMW Malaysia has officially debut the all-new X2 sDrive20i two days ago with a mission to compete against the Mercedes-Benz GLA and the upcoming Volvo XC40 toward urban lifestyle people in the big city. The X2 is a new member of the Sports Activity Coupe family right after the X6 and the X4. Even though the X2 is based on the X1 (utilizing the same BMW UKL platform), the X2 is way different when it comes to styling approach and performance.
When it comes to style, the overall exterior design is completely new with a low-slung roofline and a wider body with a cool-looking rear end and aggressive front end with highlighted in Dark Shadow Grey. All trims around the wheel arches are basically follow the color of the car because the X2 only offers the M Sport package like what you see below. Only the M Sport X has the black trims, which is sadly not available at this moment. All four corners have 19'' Style 715M double-spoke alloy wheels and have a lower right height by 10 mm thanks to the standard M Sport Suspension System. Not to mentioned is also the unique trapezoidal kidney grilles whereby the X2 is the first BMW to utilize it, and the classic-looking BMW style C-pillar with the roundel at both sides, with a reminiscence of the glory days of the 70s BMWs like the 3.0 CSL. The rear tailgate is fully powered, with a decent amount of space behind as well as a helpful power outlet to charge your electronic devices.
Speaking of the body itself, BMW claims that the X2 is more stiffer than the conventional brother, the X1. It has a fine-tuned suspension system, dampers and anti-roll bars for better handling response and less prone to understeer. That's a +1UP for the X2!
Pop the hood of the X2 and you will see the 4-banger turbocharged B48 engine with 192 hp and 280 Nm of torque between 1,350 rpm to 4,600 rpm. The power is sent to the front wheels (yep, FF) and paired with a new 7 speed dual clutch transmission, which brings up a fuel consumption of 5.9 l/100 km. 0 to 100 sprint time is about 7.7 seconds and a top speed of 227 km/h which are pretty modest for a crossover like this.
Moving on to the interior, you will find a similar dashboard design like the X1. The only changes are the bigger iDrive screen and the M Sport Steering Wheel. Power seats with driver's side memory is standard, and BMW Connected service including concierge services and SOS are also available at no cost. Additionally, Comfort Access keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, park assist and a backup camera are also thrown in.
The all-new BMW X2 is now available at your nearest BMW showroom with the only sDrive20i M Sport package with 6 color selections as of now. It's currently for sale with the price tag of
RM 320,800 on-the-road without insurance. A 5-year unlimited mileage warranty is included as well as 5-year free scheduled maintenance and 2-year tyre warranty. Since this car is not available for test drive, I will make another post about it once I got informed by the nearest showroom around me.
Special thanks to BMW Auto Bavaria Sungai Besi for letting me to cover the all-new BMW X2.
