Slowpoke Saturday: Subaru Driving Experience and The Russ Swift Stunt Show

Last weekend, I went to the Subaru Roadshow in Setia Alam Convention Center parking lot. This was not a plain car roadshow that you had seen outside any shopping malls, because there was an exclusive show called the Russ Swift Stunt Show that gave the "wow" factor to all Subaru fans, enthusiasts and potential owners.

The Stunt Show was made every year across Malaysia, with the daredevil from England, Russ Swift. He was one of the veteran stunt driver for decades and he held three Guinness World Records, as well as featured in an episode of Top Gear where he taught the elderly people to drive fast, doing donuts and handbrake parking.

Besides that, there was also a renowned AWD challenge to demonstrate how awesome the Symmetrical All Wheel Drive was in any rough terrain and hazardous condition. In addition to the AWD challenge, Subaru also made an extreme off-road ride to all customers with the XV, just outside the convention center. And last but not least, Subaru brought the XV and the Forester to bring the fans and enthusiasts to feel in both city and highway driving.

Here's the AWD challenge course.

The cars were prepared for the stunt show.

Members of the Subie club were also attended.

And an exclusive autocross, just for them.

Damn son, gotta love that GC8 Subaru Impreza WRX STI. Just dope!

There's also a rare Legacy Wagon!

Saw this Levorg at that day. Sadly, there's no test drive for that.

Before the stunt show started, I went for an AWD challenge, for the second time since 2014. At that time, I tried out the Forester instead of the XV, which I had driven numerously.

After drove the Forester out to the AWD challenge, I got a free gift, which was a mug if I'm not mistaken. Hours later, I bought an Under Armour shirt with the Subaru tag on it, just to get a special ticket to get inside the stunt car with Russ Swift. This was the best wish list I've thinking of for years, getting inside a stunt car and feel it with adrenaline rush with a veteran stunt man!

Finally! I got the ticket!

Since I had a 30 minute spare time before the show started, I went for another normal test drive with the Forester again, and drove it to another place where off-road ride happened. It consisted a Subaru XV accompanied with a driver to bring me and feel the high speed off-road stunt, the wild-wild west way.

XV gone dirty!

After the high speed off-road escapade ended, I quickly went back to the Forester and drove it back to the roadshow to go for the stunt show in a nick of time.

Lots of people queued up for the real deal!

Since I got the special ticket for the ride, I sat on the front row in all the seats provided. The bonus part was that I could record the stunt clip and shots clearly. I did upload some videos of his arrival as well as his famous stunt skits! Take a look here!

I was really excited for the stunts!

Ladies and gentleman, Russ Swift!

After his brief introduction about the stunt show, it was a time for lights, camera and action! He drove the WRX STI in the first three stunts such as reverse J-turn, a quick and tight reverse parking, and powerslide parallel parking.  Next, he eventually switch to the WRX STI again for a "pole-dancing" drive while smoked the tyres to cheer the crowd up!

Parallel parking, the legitimate way!

Then, he moved to the Forester for the classic two wheel stunt, while he made a perfect circle! Wasn't that amazing?!

Here's the fun part. Since I got the special ticket, I got a chance to ride with him and record the first-person view when the car was in two wheel only while making a perfect circle. The first try wasn't really make a good circle. However, the second part, the stunt was really successful!

"That was awesome!"

Finally, he went back to the WRX STI for a huge donut!
Prepare for a donut!

At the end of the show, everyone went back to the booth and grab selfies with Russ Swift. Within that period, I greeted and asked the man himself for a photo and autograph. In contrast, he was a humble man and enthusiastic. He was quite a funny guy as well, as what you can see in the video above.

And...the end..that's all for now.

If you wanna experience this mesmerizing event, Subaru Malaysia conduct the event right now in Juru Auto City in Penang this Saturday and Sunday (24-25 Sept 2016). Don't be late kids, because tomorrow is the last day for him to bring up your enjoyment!
